THE 2020 AWARD
BOSTON, MA -- Marist's Brian Giorgis is the recipient of the 2020 Kay Yow award, presented annually to the top coach in Women’s Division I college basketball.
Giorgis lead Marist to its first regular season MAAC title since 2014. The Red Foxes closed the regular season with 11 straight wins to climb into the Top 5 of the Women's Mid-Major Top 25 ® and advanced to the MAAC tournament semifinals before the season was canceled.
The Marist head coach finished the season with a record of 26-4 and 18-2 in the MAAC. It was the ninth time in program history that Marist reached the 25-win plateau.
The Kay Yow Award was established last year to honor the Division I women's head coach who embodies not only a winning spirit but who also displays great character both on and off the court.
Yow was a coaching legend who led NC State to 737 wins during her 34 seasons at the school. She was wildly successful in every forum in which she coached, leading gold medal winners at the 1981 World University Games, the 1986 Goodwill Games, 1986 World Championship Games and the 1988 Olympic Games.
